Springbeauty - Claytonia perfoliata


    A short hairless plant. Basal leaves are oval, in a rosette and stalked. The stems have one pair of leaves united in a whorl below the flowers. Flowers white 4 to 5 mm; the petals may be slightly notched or may not.

    Identification difficulty

    Dry, light sandy soil, disturbed ground.

    Late April to July.

    A local plant that is widespread over much of Britain.

    VC55 Status

    Not common in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 15 of the 617 tetrads.
