Description

A small, almost black rove beetle with short wing cases exposing much of the abdomen.

Found in various habitats, but especially associated with woodland.

When to see it

May be encountered in most months of the year but most frequent between April and August.

UK Status

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

VC55 Status

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 41 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
