Tenthredo brevicornis


    A fairly large lemon-yellow and black sawfly similar to several other related species. (Males of Tenthredo arcuata, brevicornis, notha & schaefferi cannot be separated).

    Identification difficulty

    Flower rich grassland, especially where umbellifers are present.

    When to see it

    June to September.

    Life History

    Adults are nectar feeders usually found on umbellifer flowers.

    UK Status

    Widespread in the southern half of Britain.

    VC55 Status

    Uncommon or under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
