Urocystis ranunculi is a smut fungus which affects certain Buttercup (Ranunculus) species causing stems etc. to blister and eventually erupt, exposing a mass of dark spores. It is advisable to check the spores microscopically to confirm the species.
Where Ranunculus species are found.
Late summer and early autumn.
Widespread, and probably fairly frequent in Britain, though not well recorded.
There are few records from Leicestershire and Rutland, though the species may be under recorded.
