Brown Birch Bolete - Leccinum scabrum
Cap 5 to 15 cm wide, brown, becoming rather slimy when damp. Hemispherical at first but widening later. The pores are off-white and when bruised, the pores do not undergo a colour change. Dark brown woolly scales cover the whole of the stem (stipe) surface.
Any grassy area beneath Birch
Seen in summer and autumn
Grows under Birch trees sometimes in large numbers.
Common and widespread in Britain.
Common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
