Phylus coryli
Length 4.5 to 5.5 mm. There are three species of Phylus bugs in the UK, which can be separated with some reliability by the colour of the head and forewings. Host plant is also a useful aid to identification. The forewings of this species vary from light brown to black, with the cuneus usually slightly reddish.
Usually found on Hazel.
Adult: June-August.
Phylus bugs are all partly predatory.
P. coryli is common throughout the UK.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
