Alder Scalycap - Pholiota alnicola


    This yellowy fawn fungus is one of the least scaly of the so called scalycaps.

    Identification difficulty

    On stumps and dead trunks and branches of alder, willow and birch; often beside streams and lakes and in other shaded, damp places.

    When to see it

    September to December.

    UK Status

    Widespread in Britain. It is not particularly common but is possibly increasing.

    Infrequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
