Description

Wingspan 9-11 mm. Very similar to the Cherry Fruit Moth in appearance, this species can be distinguished with care by the angle of the markings on the forewing.

Best looked for around Hawthorn hedges and bushes.

When to see it

Flies between June and August.

Life History

It is a Hawthorn feeder.

UK Status

Common throughout most of mainland Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

VC55 Status

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant)
