Coprinellus cf. impatiens
Similar to the Fairy Inkcap (Coprinellus disseminatus), but slightly larger and with distinctive wide grooves running almost to the cap centre. Identification requires detailed examination and for this reason we list the species as Coprinellus cf. impatiens to denote that designation to species level has not been proven (unless we know that a specimen has been examined by an expert).
Occurs in small groups on deciduous broadleaf litter; it is most often seen under Beech trees on chalky soil.
June to November.
It appears to be infrequent in Britain but may be under recorded due to difficulty of accurate identification.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
