Crown Rust - Puccinia coronata


    Puccinia coronata is a rust fungus with orange aecia which galls the leaf blade and petioles of Buckthorn and Alder Buckthorn causing them to become twisted and distorted.

    Identification difficulty

    May be found where Buckthorn and Alder Buckthorn are in leaf.

    When to see it

    Late spring to early autumn.

    UK Status

    Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

    VC55 Status

    Thought to be fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland in areas where the host species are present.
