Giant Puffball - Calvatia gigantea
An easily recognised fungus by its often massive size. Generally round and white with irregular lobes and a thick leathery skin, which is easily peeled away. Attached to the ground by a root-like cord.
Grows on the ground on verges, in pasture or woods.
Usually seen in summer and autumn
Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland.
