Marchandiomyces corallinus


    A lichenicolous fungus with bright pink coralloid sclerotia (formerly believed to be sporodochia) on dead and dying areas of the host thallus.

    Identification difficulty

    Found on a number of different lichen hosts, especially Parmelia and Physcia species, frequently causing extensive die-back of Parmelia saxatilis on walls and boulders.

    All year round.

    Widespread in Britain.

    VC55 Status

    Uncommon or rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
