Yellow Brain - Tremella mesenterica


    A yellow gelatinous mass of lobes and folds.

    Identification difficulty

    Appearing on fallen deciduous branches where they have previously been infected with a crustose fungus, which it parasitises.  The host fungus can sometimes show on the same branch.

    When to see it

    All year but especially in autumn

    UK Status

    Fairly common and widespread in Britain.

    VC55 Status

    Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland.
