The fungus Exobasidium japonicum causes galls on the leaves of azaleas, which are typically the deciduous species of Rhododendron with funnel-shaped flowers and 5 stamens. The galls are irregularly swollen, pale green at first then chalky white.
Similar galls Exobasidium rhododendroni) are formed on garden Rhododendrons - usually the evergreen varieties and species, with bell-shaped flowers and 10 stamens

Widespread in Britain, though not well recorded.
