Phaonia errans
A buff/grey fly with a slightly chequered appearance. There are other very similar species in this genus which means that a detailed image or examination of an actual specimen is generally needed to identify the exact species.
Often sunning on tree trunks, fences, etc.
Spring, summer and autumn.
Common and widespread
Frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
